Dive Into Our FAQs

You can join us at any point during a session. Tuition will be prorated based on your start date. Visit our class availability page and to register for lesson.

Our swim classes, for both kids and adults, maintain a low instructor-to-student ratio to ensure personalized attention and effective teaching:

  • Private lessons have a 1:1 ratio.
  • Semi-private lessons have a 1:2 ratio.
  • Trio classes have a 1:3 ratio.
  • Parent & Tot classes have a 1:5 ratio.
You can find out what level fits your child by completing the Level Finder questionnaire.
As soon as your child is 12 months old, they are ready to enroll in our Parent & Tot classes.

Payment Policy:

  • Payment Deadline: Clients registering for the session are responsible for the full session payment. Payments are processed automatically on the 20th of each month for the following month, based on the number of classes offered, which can range from 3 to 5 classes.
  • Accepted Payment Methods: We accept credit cards (Visa and MC). If you register mid-month, your tuition will be prorated accordingly. The prorated tuition for that month will be processed at the time of registration. All subsequent payments will be due on the 20th of each month for the following month’s lessons.
  • Alternative payment methods – such as EMT and cash – can be set up by reaching out to our office prior to registration. If clients choose to pay via EMT (auto-deposit to info@backtobasicsswim.ca) or cash, they need to pay for the full session tuition at the time of registration. Tuition will be prorated for all mid-session registration.
  • Bounced Payments: Bounced credit card payments will incur a $10 penalty fee. Registered clients agree to have their credit card charged as per the payment schedule and are responsible for the full session tuition following the monthly payment schedule.
While we do our best to avoid cancelling classes, we may sometimes have to do so if there is a problem in the pool and it is not healthy or safe for your child to be in the water. If we need to cancel for any reason, the session will be extended by the number of days missed.

Please log your absence through the parent portal at least 24 hours in advance to be eligible for a make-up class based on availability. Make-up classes are a courtesy and are based on availability only. Make-ups must be used within the current session and are not transferable.

There are no refunds or credits for missed classes, illness, or personal emergencies. Once tuition has been processed, it is non-refundable. If you decide to drop mid-session, you are still responsible for the remaining tuition for the session you are registered in.

To change the scheduled day or time for lessons, please contact our office. Changes are subject to availability and cannot be guaranteed.

While it is a very rare occurrence that a parent is not happy with a child’s lesson, there are times when an instructor and a child are not the right match. We do remind parents that a child might at times project their initial discomfort in the water onto their instructor. This will sort itself out after a few lessons once they grow more comfortable. If you are unhappy with your lessons, please contact us so we can work together to come up with a solution and keep you or your child progressing in the water.
Preparing your son or daughter’s swim bag ahead of time can make arriving at the pool a lot less stressful for you and them. Here are some essentials we suggest you bring to your child’s lesson:
  • Swimsuit / Swim shorts (that tie up)
  • Beach Towel
  • Goggles (adjusted ahead of time)
  • Power Swimr (Parent & Tot and Swim 101 swimmers, aged 2-5yrs)
  • Flip-flops
  • Swim cap OR hair elastics & 2 barrettes
  • Plastic bag for wet items
  • Shampoo (& Conditioner)
  • Soap
  • Comb/Brush
  • Water & a healthy snack
Each class lasts for 30 minutes: 28 minutes are dedicated to instruction and the last few are for the instructor to give feedback to students and their parents.
